Tom Petty is not dead.
At 3:58 p.m. ET Monday, CBS News reported that they spoke to the Los Angeles Police Department about the 66-year-old’s condition, which JoltPlus and several outlets then picked up, but moments ago, CBS deleted their tweet and removed any mention of their LAPD source from their news story – a story which is still live on their site and has died in the headline without any correction or retraction.

LAPD Headquarters issued a statement on Twitter that “The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertently provided by some media sources.
“However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting,” they added.
But TMZ’s Anthony Dominic tweets that he’s still clinging to life.
